OnCourse

What we do

OnCourse is an Australian based charity working to eradicate poverty in Kenya.

We place a special focus on empowering disadvantaged youth and women through access to education and employment.

We believe local communities are best placed to identify their own needs, and have worked alongside them to provide education, employment pathways, social support and essential infrastructure since 2013.

Why we do it

OnCourse believe in equality of opportunity for all, and maximising the social return on investment we achieve using the limited funding we raise.

Our organisation is run by young people, for young people. We believe Australian youth are passionate about supporting those who haven't had the opportunities we have, and want to use their experience, skills and resources to create real change.

Our work

Our impact

Donate

We don’t measure change by dollar raised, but by the positive social, economic and personal value it’s created for the people and communities with whom we work.

Our projects are chosen and continually evaluated to maximise the long term benefit of the community. We only employ local Kenyan staff who have grown up in the community, and understand their needs intuitively, and are intrinsically invested in our mission.

OnCourse is the conduit through which passionate people in both Australia and Kenya choose to make a positive change in the world.

1500+

Our Projects

Learn More

Our projects have evolved in collaboration with local communities to target those most in need, and ensure their support is timely, meaningful and powerful.

Each project also has its own assessment criteria when it comes to identifying candidates and ensuring that we are targeting those who can most benefit from them.

Our projects also evolve over time as we work out better ways to run them, adapt to the changing environment we operate in, and identify new opportunities for us to get involved with.

01

Primary Education

While Primary School is meant to be free in Kenya, for those living in poverty, buying the school books, uniforms and basic necessities is a barrier that results in parents being unable to send their kids to school. We provide these basic needs to ensure kids get access to the education every young person deserves.

Vocational Training

Facing prohibitive high school fees, many young people end school at 13, having few opportunities to build skills or find employment. Our Vocational Training programme funds a trade certification and the social support to ensure young people have the chance to build a better future for themselves and their families.

Social Support

The reality of the environment in which we work can be desparate. Lack of sanitation, adequate housing, running water, healthcare, food and the social challenges that come with these are urgent needs. We provide basic necessities and social support as needed, such as emergency food supplies during COVID lockdowns in 2020.

Infrastructure

Functional infrastructure is often missing within the communities in which we work. We fund libraries, school kitchens and dormitories, as well as a rescue centre at Simba Hill, to give children and young people safer places to learn, eat and live. These projects boost school attendance, ensure engaged learning, and act as a safety net for the children and young people we support.
